An Ode to Plants (Sort of)

Do plants make you smile? According to this study they make people feel happier and more productive.

This last weekend my parents were in town (bliss!) and my mom and I ambled down to the local nursery to peruse new possibilities for my garden. I say ambled because we were without children in tow (hooray)!

Anyway, we found two great new tenants that have recently taken up residency in my yard and I seriously cannot stop staring at them. I catch them out of the corner of my eye and I sort of smile when I see them. They both are kind of weird, which I find immensely satisfying. There was a rose in my garden bed previously (which was, sadly, not well), so we removed it. But I remember thinking, the rose just didn't belong here. It seems odd, but I sort of felt like it was looking down it's thorns at me, scoffing. It was much to fancy for our space. We're much better with plant outcasts, if you will. Bonus, they both are very drought tolerant (important for California)!

For your information, the top one is called a Senecio (a type of succulent)
And the bottom is a Cigar Plant (isn't that fantastic)?

What do you like having in your yard?

Oh man I love plants, but I'm a notorious plant killer. I have a new succulent that I'm really trying to keep alive. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
