First Day

9/04/2014

Yesterday was Mila's first day of pre-school. I can't say that it went smoothly. There were tears (from both of us). There was the anxiety of a new place and new people and new routines. As she was led into her classroom, she turned to me, crying: "But it will so hard to wait for you to come back!" Sucker punch to my heart. Needless to say I accomplished nothing in those three hours that she was gone, except filing my nails down with my teeth (which is something I never do, so you now know the magnitude of my worry).

Nevertheless I survived. She survived. When I went to collect her at noon, she ran to me, bravely holding back tears: "You came back!" Almost immediately a little girl came up behind her holding a little stuffed owl (Mila had apparently clutched to it throughout the day). She said, "Here, Mila, it's your owl, he helps so you won't be sad." I could have hugged that sweet girl then and there.

I am already feeling anxious about Friday when she will be going back, but I know that she knows I will always come back for her. And I know there's a little stuffed owl to hold if she needs a source of comfort. And perhaps, more importantly, we both know that she has a classroom of big and little friends who will always be looking out for her.

P.S. For all of you hard-working moms out there, don't be too hard on yourselves

What a sweetie! Glad you both made it thru. It was touch and go here too. It can only get easier from here, right?! :)

How cute! Glad everything went well...my mom says I was the same way when I started school. But, everyone gets through it -- and so do the parents! :)
