I do more walking living in San Francisco than I ever have in my life. I walk a few miles a day to and from work (with a bus ride in between), we walk to dinner and to get drinks and to see friends. Sometimes when I can easily take the bus (or our car) I prefer to walk so I can get a better feel for the geography of the city, for which streets I'll feel safe on and which to avoid after dusk, and for shops and restaurants I want to visit. And when I walk I keep my phone tucked away in my bag or pocket, but I have managed to take a few photos. I'm curious - where do you live? Do you have to take your car to run errands or can you walk? Do you live in a city or the suburbs?

Lucky! I mentioned to a friend the other day that I think I'll walk my youngest to pre-school this year (three times a week) which is about a mile away and she looked at me like I had two heads. Damn suburbia.
I love that second photo! such beautiful homes. I love walking around, so much to explore (I live in NYC)

The walkability of SF is my dream. I walk now when possible but San Marcos suburbia doesn't make it easy.
I've lived in Philadelphia my entire life, and have never owned a car. Going on 28 years (well, I've only been licensed for 8 of those...). We rent a car share/Zipcar once a month for big errand runs, but other than that, I rely on my legs and the bus. I read a lot and don't have to worry about paying for gas, parking, insurance, or a car payment! xo
I split my time between rural PA and Pittsburgh where I go to school. I love walking around all of the different neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. There are so many interesting places to explore.

This is what I miss about NYC!! the walking...in Dallas no one walks anywhere...there are barely any sidewalks! SO lucky! enjoy!
I live in a tiny village in the Alps so walking around to meet up with friends or for errands is easy but I always take the car for work and for going to the city for shopping excursions. When we lived in the city, (in Annecy) we could do almost everything by bicycle. I loved that! I miss it a bit.
