Behind the Business: Mimosa Lane

This week we're speaking to Albertina from the blog and shop Mimosa Lane as part of our Behind the Business series. Her colorful blog is a daily read of ours, we can't get enough of the bright finds in her shop (like this pouch and these pillows). Thanks for stopping by Albertina!

Tell us about Mimosa Lane.

Mimosa Lane started as a lifestyle blog in 2012 as a place to share and highlight all the beautiful and interesting things around us. From luxurious interiors, to travel and art, to delicious recipes and trends in style and fashion, to fun and appealing DIYs.  With all these fun discoveries I was being exposed to everyday as I researched for material to write about I became interested in designing patterns and so this is how I started designing fabrics, pillows and pouches.  Mimosa Lane is all about vibrant and happy combinations that will add life to your home or your outfit.  You can find my pillows and pouches on my etsy store or Society Social.

What were you doing before you launched your shop?

I run a small nonprofit foundation called The Child brain Foundation that raises money for pediatric neurological research.  My background is in finance and have worked in banking and payment industries.

What would you say are three keys to success for an emerging brand to get them on people’s radars and up the awareness factor around their company?

The main key to success is offering a unique and quality product that people find value in. Collaborating with people who have a similar style and work ethic is also very important.  I have found a great partner in Society Social, for example. We have gotten great press around the linen pagoda pillow design. With so many purchase options out there being active in social media is also key to remaining in people's top-of-mind.  The relationships I have built through blogging have also been amazingly helpful and so very supportive. Getting involved with like-minded individuals has been very helpful.

If you could describe the brand in 3 words, what would they be?

Vibrant. Colorful. Happy.
What do you see as the greatest opportunities for your brand? What about challenges?

I still have so much work to do! I think Mimosa Lane's opportunities lie in refreshing the product line with new designs and combinations.  I have so many ideas for new colors, patterns, photo-shoot themes. We also have great room for growth on our online presence.  Competition is definitely a challenge as there are so many amazing pillow and accessory designers out there. The time constraint is also difficult to deal with.  I have a million ideas for new designs and collaborations and not enough time to plan and execute. With so many responsibilities it is difficult to strike that perfect balance, but I strive toward it everyday.

What is the biggest goal for Mimosa Lane in 2014 and beyond?

My biggest goal for this year and beyond is to offer new designs and always keep the product-line fresh. I need to continue growing the brand and my following. Another goal is to create excitement around the products to keep them relevant through collaborations.
