Treat Your Skin. With Respect.

3/11/2014

Do you ever get the feeling that your skin glares back at you in the mirror? Irritated. Dry. Cracked. You know what I'm talking about. My skin struggled all winter. It didn't help that the air was unbearably dry, but I'd wake up each morning with the moisture just sucked out of my skin and it was making me feel...well...ick. I decided to step up my game a couple of months ago and have been trying a few new (well new to me) products that have helped tremendously. My skin loves me again!

Skin Trip Mountain Ocean Moisturizer. Got this as a tip from my pal Lindsay. It's soft and soothing and it smells like you are on a tropical retreat everyday.

Mint Lip Butter. Technically not for your face, but your lips. Mine are always dry and I put this on pretty much constantly throughout the day. Love the soft mint scent.

Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. Lather face. Every night. That is all.

Hydrate Facial Toner. This is great either as part of a bedtime routine or in the morning before you put on your makeup. Hydrating and you smell like a rose.

Avocado Oil. I literally tried this for the first time last night and it's very similar to coconut oil, in that my skin sucks it down with a fierce intensity. A tip from a friend's mom: You can also use the remnants of a real avocado after eating the rest of it and rub it around your eyes for instant moisture. Food + Beauty product in one. Can't complain! ;)

Tea Tree Oil. Zit buster. For realz. Everytime I feel a breakout coming on, I just apply a drop to a tablespoon of coconut oil and lather up my face.

P.S. Did you see these beauty tips by Lupita Nyong'o in Racked? Also I love her.

avocado oil, what an interesting idea! do you know how it compares to all of the 'hot' skin oils {sea berry, argan, etc}? i mean...if this works just as well i'd obviously be much more inclined to pay less than $20 for an 8oz bottle versus $50+ for a 2oz one. very curious about that!

I have been hearing so much about using coconut oil on your face and to remove make up. I need to try this!

All of these are new to me, which is very exciting! ;) Winter is hard on my skin. Dry during the day, oily overnight. And always at risk of breaking out. UGH. I'm definitely checking some of these out! XO

Coconut oil has so many great uses! Even for your whole body as a moisturizer. Great list!

I swore by the Tea Tree Oil Blemish stick (not the concentrated oil) from Body Shop for years but then it stopped being effective. I tried the regular oil and it left a big red burn on my face! Yikes! Now I use CVS brand benzoyl peroxide cream when I feel like my skin is going to break out, just as a spot treatment, and it's super effective (though no where near 'natural' oops) xo
