Prague.

1/16/2014

I know. Everyone talks about Paris. I always talk about Paris. But have I told you about the time I went to Prague? I can't remember (mommy brain fog), so I'm going to tell you anyway. First off, it was cold. Like so cold that I finally understood why it is necessary to drink heated alcohol (hello mulled wine). I literally walked around wearing two down jackets. It was a sight to be seen. But my goodness is Prague gorgeous, and almost more so covered in a blanket of sparkling white snow. It seems grander than Paris in a way. Magnificently old, it's buildings have secrets to keep. And as the sun sets and the last bits of light tip toe across snow-covered rooftops you'll wonder if you stepped into a timeless fairytale.
Go. And when you go, go here:

Prague Castle. I can't even explain the grandeur of the castle. You could spend an entire week here, I'm sure. The gardens are supposed to be lovely, but they are only accessible in summer.

Franz Kafka's House. Here's a photo. Magical right?

Old Town. Just walk around and look. It's colorful, eclectic and full of history. You'll feel small and wonderful.

The Charles Bridge. Beautiful views. The photo above was taken from here.

U Medvidku Beer Hall and Restaurant. Because you have to drink beers while you are in Prague. They are that good.

Have you been to Prague? Where have you traveled in winter?

Ahh! I have never been! But--it is one of my husband's absolutely favorite countries he has ever traveled to. And it sounds awesome--even with the frozen temps! :)

I loved Prague! It's so beautiful and such a nice mix of old and new. I went during the summer but it was still pretty chilly. PRAHA!!

Prague is definitely on my must-see list–and I love visiting cities in the winter, since California doesn't give me any excuses to pull out my fabulous winter gear!

This reminds me of why I am so enamored of Scotland - this just looks like perfection to me.

As if my wanderlust needed more stoking! Prague: added to the list! We were in Kyoto one winter, scooting around the countryside on bicycles at 32* weather. At the time: kind of awful. Now: a fond memory. Funny how time glosses things :) x

this has been on my short list since i was about 15 and it was still czechoslovakia. truth be told i liked a boy who went there and he told me it was the best place in europe and showed me magnificent photos, which convinced me it just might be. and since then everyone i know who has been to europe and visited prague they have loved prague the most.
