A New Nighttime Routine (Not Baby Related)

1/21/2014

Do you guys have a nighttime routine? My usual one is: Pour wine, feed kids, argue with kids about eating, clean up kids + dog from food that was thrown on his head, negotiate getting into the bath, bathe kids, read to Mila, give Phoenix a bottle, pour more wine, scarf down dinner, pass out. Like, literally that's my nighttime routine.

But I've been really wanting do something for me. For my skin specifically. It feels so dry and sad lately. Enter three things. Tea tree oil, coconut oil and lavender. Truth be told, I spied a version of the idea here and was intrigued, so I pinned it and vowed to give it a whirl at some point (mostly these grand ideas fall into the abyss of "things that I plan to do, but never will"). But, not this time my friends! I booked a date with Soap.com, bought myself a little bottle of tea tree oil, some coconut oil and plucked some lavender from the yard.

To Make:
One teaspoon of coconut oil
Add 1-2 drops of tea tree oil
Add a few pinches of lavender dust,
Put it in a sealed jar.

I have happily been applying it at night after I wash my face. I leave it on until the morning and I swear my face already looks ten days younger. Imagine the possibility after 100 uses! But seriously, it feels so fresh and cool and wonderful, I'm hooked. Tell me, do you have a nighttime routine for your skin?

ooo, this looks lovely and i think i have all of those items. i am going to have to give this a try. i just bought some serious night-time moisturizer, like the kind with a little retinol in it to try to use at night. but i could double for sure and use both ;)

Lovely! I love using coconut oil; I swear it's made my face look better than ever. The less ingredients the better!

Oh! I will absolutely be trying this!! My skin is incredibly dry & sad as well! Our air up here is so cold & dry this time of year, I am always seeking remedies for softer skin! So glad you shared this :) XO

I've heard so many good things about coconut oil! It has all sorts of uses. Tea Tree Oil face wash from the Body Shop is my go-to in the summer months when I don't want my face to look like a grease slick, but the actual concentrated tea tree oil is too harsh for my skin I found. My night routine is the same as my morning (Cetaphil gentle, Clinique clarifying toner #2) only I use an oil free Clinique lotion and then a Clinique night lotion on top of it (can you tell I'm a brand enthusiast??). Slather on some CVS brand benzoyl peroxide on some problem areas, and I'm good to go! My skin is the best it's looked in years, too. xo

I love the lazy girl's best friend, cleansing wipes–and then I use my long-time facial oil to tone and moisturize. But boy oh boy, when I forget to do it do I feel awful!

This sounds lovely and I bet the lavender is nice and soothing right before bed. I would totally make this - it would also make a great stocking stuffer!

Love this! My nighttime routine is just to wash my face and use a Clinique eye cream. Yours sounds so much more relaxing.
