To Give...

12/18/2013

In the midst of all of the sales, the pretty decor, the hustle and bustle of trying to find the perfect gift; there is this: the true spirit of the holidays. There are many who are less fortunate, many who are fighting for their health and many who would be thankful for even the smallest gesture of love and support.

This year Kirby and I are gifting some of the money we've earned through our blog to support a couple of organizations who need it way more than we do.

Here are a few of our favorite places to give:

St. Baldrick's Foundation - A volunteer driven charity dedicated to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers.

The Association to Benefit Children - ABC was created to amplify the voices of defenseless children by combating poverty and championing the right of every child to a joyful childhood.

Animal Protection and Rescue League -  Promotes the compassionate protection of animals by educating about factory farm animals and humane eating.

Homicide Watch - Committed to documenting and recording every homicide from crime to conviction in an effort to understand and combat violent crime in our neighborhoods. (Washington D.C., Chicago).

Grassroot Soccer - Uses the power of a popular sport to educate and inspire communities to stop the spread of HIV.

What is your favorite way of giving back during the holidays?

I always give during the holidays (kids gifts for Santa's Anonymous, donations to the Humane Society, etc) but this year I want to start giving at other times of year as well - after 6 years of living on a very small grad student stipend I'm finally making a good living and feel like it's very important to give back now.

What an awesome post - it's so important to remember to give back! I just dropped off some food donations the other day, and they told me mine was the only one they'd received so far :-(

Oh I just love that you gals did a post like this. So wonderful! I love the idea of giving anonymously to someone...I feel like it's even more special that way.

That is awesome that you're giving back. I think it's so important to remember that the holidays are not a wonderful time for everyone. And when you find yourself with more, if possible give.

These are some great ideas! I would love to donate this year, if we could. I'm definitely bookmarking this for after the beginning of the year, when things (hopefully) get a little easier :)

I absolutely love this!! And it is so true! Our church has something called the "big give" where members donate money and the money is then donated out amongst the members for necessities in the congregation...it is so wonderful to see it go directly to the community!

And of course I love st. jude's!
