Tomatoes

9/05/2013

One of my favorite things about the end of summer is the pleasure of picking red, ripe tomatoes off of the vine. Ours exploded this year (see above) and we couldn't be more happy with the results. Mila loves hunting for 'matoes, as she calls them. Another delicious way to eat them is in a fresh, tomato salad with basil, olive oil and a touch of salt and pepper. Just make sure that you have a fresh baguette to mop up the juice! :)

isn't lovely being able to have your kids pick veggies out of the garden? they get so excited and it's such a great thing to see them get excited about. i have about 100 tomatoes but they are still all green. and now it's cloudy : / i am thinking i need to look up some fried green tomato recipes.

I think I am going to make one last salad like this. Then I am ready to rip them out of the ground! We planted way too many this year!! Tomato overload!

Oh to have your own homegrown tomatoes! What a dream! I will say that while I am firmly in Camp Winter (bring on snow!!) one of my absolute favorite things about summer is tomatoes. You just cannot get the same tomatoes any other time of year. They're perfect. xo
