Cities.

5/09/2013

The other day I was reading Victoria's post about moving to New York City. I have a secret (well it's not really a secret...just a funny little fact about me) I've always wanted to live in New York. I had these big dreams when I was younger. I would be a struggling writer (struggling just sounded cooler), I would have a small, sweet and cozy little studio on the West Side. I'd hang out with co-workers after work and drink wine. I'd dine alone at little hole in the wall restaurants. I'd stay up late, typing away and having long distance phone conversations with my best friend Nikki. I would date, but oddly enough I never pictured finding my husband there. I seriously created a whole life for myself there, which is kind of silly to think about now.

Matt is not super keen on New York (at least he doesn't have the romantic crush that I do with it). But I realized, as I was perusing photos the other night, even though I never had the chance to live in the Big Apple, Matt and I created our own stories in other cities around the world. Here are some spots that we stayed in for: one year, eight months, two months, one week, one day.

San Francisco, California
1 Year.

Wellington, New Zealand
8 Months

Florence, Italy
2 Months

Buenos Aires, Argentina
1 Week

Dusseldorf, Germany

You've really gotten to travel to some neat places together. The husband and I have never been abroad together, but I hope we will someday!

You've created stories in pretty incredible places! Wow. My hubs & I have been in the same city (that we adore I should mention) since we met, we got married here too.

always, koru kate

I have a similar romantic crush on New York. When I was little, I used to threaten to run away to New York because that's where "my real family" was, or so I thought. After college, my best friend moved there so I would visit her at least once a year, usually more, until she moved to Korea three years ago. I still managed to get back last spring but I'm dying for another visit.

i have a similar view on paris. i completely imagine myself living in a tiny flat in st. germain, wasting away the time in cafes, shopping in flea markets, mastering the art of french cooking, and getting lost in the many amazing museums. **le sigh**

Fun, Alexa! NYC would be my #1 spot to live if money were no object! The struggling part didn't sound quite so appealing to me! :)

I've always wanted to move out of state. I'm so divided between living in New York or San Francisco. It sounds so romantic for a single girl.

such a lovely post! i love these secrets best, the things we dreamed of (or still secretly dream of). i had similar thoughts though i am sure i have pictured myself in almost every city with a similar life, wine with friends, a cozy city apartment, struggling in the fabulous way we imagine artists to struggle in. but who am i kidding, i still daydream about these things! love, love, love this post.

Love this post! So neat that you have lived in all of these places. The only places I've lived other than charlotte are raleigh for school and charleston for a summer. I will definitely live in charleston again one day.
