Of Late: On Being a Parent...

3/14/2013

So we're kind of in the middle of this potty training "thing." Or whatever you want to call it (challenge, dispute, fiasco). I've decided that this may be a mistake to tackle whilst pregnant, because I tend to want a really stiff drink at the end of each day. But here we are: Mila, me and an orange and green colored potty in the shape of frog. We call him Hermit (like Kermit only with an "H" because sometimes one of us wants to throw him into a dark cabinet and shut the door). Nevertheless there has been progress and there have been setbacks and those are the words when it comes to parenting. For now, I'm going to steal a scoop of chocolate ice cream out of the cartoon, and maybe Mila can have some too, after all we're in it together.

P.S. Do you have potty training tips? Advice is gladly appreciated.

Oh god.. we have been potty training since OCTOBER! and have made minimum progress. My some is 2.5 and goes through stages of wanting to go pee pee and a phase of where he only wants to wear his diaper.. he understands the concept of pee but he just says no. I have heard of people mastering potty training over the weekend and we have been at it for months.. I wish you success and hope for some myself. btw ours is a froggy too

Alexa! I've been on it since Saturday and for two days we haven't had any accidents! What worked for me: stickers as rewards, taking him every hour to pee, and taking his diaper off and leaving him naked for the whole day. Good luck! It's been a nightmare, I've been living in the toilet and cleaning accidents since Saturday :S

What a cutie. I went down the potty training road with Amelia and will be doing it again with Eve in a few months. With Amelia we went cold turkey. It was the dead of winter and we just stayed in the house for about a week, wearing underwear and cleaning up a lot of messes. But she took to it pretty quickly. With Eve however, I'm not sure how this will go. Good luck. :)

I'm not looking forward to potty training with little lady #2. With #1 it sort of just clicked and she decided she wanted to be independent and one day she was potty trained-- hardly any accidents or anything.

I'm no fool though. I don't think I'll luck out twice-- and lady #2 is a wild one who does NOT like to be told what to do. It's going to have to happen on her terms. lol.

So glad you are doing this before the baby is born...because you won't have time then at all....and there will be too many changes for your daughter already. What worked for us....we did the full throttle approach...it took 9 days....but we didn't leave the house...no diaper at all, not even at nap time...so she would wake up from her nap if she peed. But she learned quickly....and take her first few days every 30 min. then every hour....then a bit longer...you get the idea. She will get the hang of it....and yes ice cream as a reward for you is in order. Its hard work. I have a good strategy for night time training when you are there. Best of luck! xx

Oh, I can only imagine the horror of potty training. I think fiasco may be the word. Good luck!

I wish I had advice to give, but unfortunately I don't. I can however complement you on your beautiful child! ;-)
