Sponsor Spotlight. Kristina From Nook and Sea

6/28/2012

I'm telling you kids...Kristina is amazing. Kirby and I had the opportunity to meet her at the So-Cal blogger meetup and besides being warm and funny, she is also a creative mastermind. I adore her chalk bottles and succulents in mason jars are two of my favorite things in one! Can you go wrong? I think not. Kristina is our sponsor for the month of June and it's been a blast having her in our little corner of the blog world. She's actually sponsoring The Short and the Sweet of It this month, so feel free to pop on over to Nook and Sea, peruse her sweet blog and learn a little more about us too!

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME NOOK AND SEA? IT MAKES US WANT TO CURL UP INSIDE A BEACH-SIDE COTTAGE WITH A GOOD NOVEL.
Thank you! I was actually in the midst of a busy work day and my mind was racing. I had been itching to re-brand the site for awhile to better reflect my love of interiors and hint at my life by the beach. The former title (Something 2 Write About) didn't translate well into other avenues should I ever grow into a boutique or styling company; and after a handful of silly word combinations, I finally landed something that stuck!

WHERE DO YOU FIND YOUR INSPIRATION FOR BLOGGING?
The majority of my everyday inspiration comes from simply scouring the web for things I enjoy. I also subscribe to a lot of great newsletters (like Dwell, California Home + Design, Homelife Australia, Houzz, Apartment Therapy, etc.) and love having quality material delivered to my inbox on a regular basis. On a larger and more personal scale, I'm certainly influenced by my talented friends, other professional bloggers and creative young women who strive to do what they love.
WHAT'S YOUR OWN PERSONAL STYLE WHEN IT COMES TO ITEMS IN YOUR CLOSET?
My personal style is very much still evolving. In elementary school, I went through a big tomboy phase (and still have yet to own a skirt)! I carry a bit of that with me today, preferring sandals over high heels; but there's a huge part of me that's begging to grow up. Transforming my style and confidence into the professional I want to be isn't going to happen overnight, but I'm excited to see where it takes me.

YOU TAKE GORGEOUS PHOTOS, WHAT TYPE OF CAMERA DO YOU USE?
Thank you! I use a Canon 30D with a 50 mm lens that my husband gave me for our first wedding anniversary. Using natural light, playing around with styling and taking the time to edit (even if it's only slightly) your photos will really take them up a notch. The more original content you provide will make you stand out, and that's never a bad thing :)

WHAT DOES YOUR DREAM HOUSE LOOK LIKE?
I have always loved Cape Cod style construction, complete with a red door, planter boxes and white picket fence. But I also think that the idealistic "American Dream" house is evolving. My husband loves mid-century modern design (I blame it on Mad Men), so a pre-fab house in the woods is exciting to him. Naturally, it rubs off on me too! But if I had to choose, I would kill for a Santa Barbara style home that's quintessential to California and its history.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT LIVING IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA?
The escapes! We are so close to everything here. From San Diego to Los Angeles, Palm Springs to Big Sur, nothing seems impossible to get to. Most of the time you can head to Las Vegas or Mexico just for the weekend. And then of course there's Disneyland :)
IF YOU COULDN'T LIVE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, WHERE DO YOU ENVISION SETTLING DOWN?
Though I love warm weather, I've always been drawn to the lush, green regions of the Pacific Northwest. My family has a vacation home in the mountains, and I love being surrounded by nature. I'm also one of those freaks that LOVES the rain, so maybe a stint in Seattle is necessary at some point!

DO YOU HAVE ANY FUN PLANS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR?
Yes! My husband and I are going on an Alaskan cruise fairly soon with his family, then jetting to the heat of Lake Havasu, Arizona. Besides that, I'm looking forward to celebrating my two-year wedding anniversary and continuing my efforts with Nook & Sea. I am so blessed. It's going to be a very good year :)
