The Great Rug Debate

1/12/2012

{Small stripes}
{Large stripes}
{Neutral in sea grass or another natural material}
{Chevron, you know me...}
The bottom floor of our townhouse is all tile, and save for one rug that goes in front of our sink, we are rug-less. I feel like our place looks unfinished without rugs, and it's also cold on bare feet! I am loving striped and chevron rugs for the dining area and maybe neutral for under our coffee table. Or maybe the other way around? Thoughts?

This is my first time shopping for rugs and I can't believe how pricey they are. Eeeps! Does anyone have suggestions for rugs that won't break the bank? We did just book a vacation to Hawaii after all. More on that later!

I just wrote a post on rugs too! Great minds! Anyway, all of the ones I'm looking at are from RugsUSA.com – they're pretty reasonably priced and they have sales a bunch too. Good luck and let me know what you end up with!

You may laugh when I say this, but Garden Ridge has a HUGE rug collection for super cheap and, surprisingly, there are tons of cute options. P.S. I think I like the mini stripes best. ;)

The chevron rug is great! I have one with circles to go with my somewhat obsessive decorating scheme built around circles and dots.

I'm loving the small stripes, and the chevron would look really great as a runner rug (hallway, kitchen) ;)

I have no idea how to not break the bank with rugs, they are expensive!

I think the chevron would look great in a living room and the tan would look great under the dining room table - I feel like it would be harder to see the stains in a tan rug, which I also feel like is inevitable in a dining room/eating situation!

All of these are great! I think the stripes - both the large and small - are my favorites though! Good luck on finding a good deal!

I love the large stripey rug! We got ours from Ikea, and have been pretty pleased. The designs they have available are sometimes great, sometimes horrid :) but if you keep checking back you can get quite a deal. We have a natural fiber rug and a pretty yellow, gray, and white Navajo-kind of patterned rug. Also check Home Goods on El Camino Real.

Eeks! = very accurate! I keep on looking for one that will grow with our changing tastes in our living room, but have yet to find success. I see ones I like on Gilt and One Kings Lane, but are still a little on the pricy end :( Maybe I just need to suck it up when I finally do see one I like!

Rugs are a MUST with tile floors---really warm a place up in more ways than one!

I bought a couple from West Elm, and the prices weren't horrible.

SALES are awesome! We invested in a really great Crate & Barrel one, and it has SO been worth it! But if you're on a budget- check out Urban Outfitters and/or IKEA for good deals that are usually pretty AWESOME! Happy rug-searching!!

I'm not sure how practical this is, but I always see it on HGTV...they take carpet squares and put them together to make a large rug. Do you know what I'm talking about?!
it looks great and you can make your own pattern. but again, no clue how easy it is

I am LOVING that top image!! The metallic side table is divine next to the crisp stripes. So which type of rug did you opt for...?
