{Guest Post} Jamie From Charmingly Ordinary {Fashionable Mama}

10/25/2011

I am so excited to welcome Jamie of Charmingly Ordinary to our little bloggy in a new series called Fashionable Mama. I was inspired after having Sarah from A Girl in Transit blog about her clothing choices since becoming a mommy to Samantha that I called in other mommy bloggers to do the same. I have five ladies lined up over the next few Tuesdays, so I hope you enjoy their tips as much as I have! Take it away, Jamie!

Hi! I’m Jamie, of the little blog Charmingly Ordinary. I’m a semi-stay-at-home-momma to Levi, which I think is what qualifies me to share a thing or two about mommy fashion. But before we get right to it, this is me. 158-1 And more importantly, this is my guy. He just turned one, and gets cuter by the minute. 001-3 Alrighty. The fashion. Many of my ensembles these days involve a button down shirt. You see, soon after Levi was born, I realized that babies are constantly grabbing and pulling and tugging on their mommas’ clothes ((or is it just Levi?), meaning that my usual scoop neck tops had me revealing my, um, unmentionables in some very public places. Definitely not ok. So, I’ve been opting for the button down a lot lately and have discovered it to be an easy way to look comfortably put-together while keeping my underwear under my clothing. I’m loving some of these plaid options (from Old Navy!) for Fall. Flannel shirts blog And a few of my very favorite ways to wear said button downs. 372874645_zpCoycun_c-1 + the belly-tie: for a high-waisted skirt (my fav is with a maxi) + the half-tuck: for when you don’t feel like ironing or for showing off a belt 48552326_nZmyCI9P_c-1 + un-tucked: for when you’ve had time (ha!) to iron (otherwise, there’s the risk of looking sloppy) + as a shirtdress with leggings: sometimes I’ll steal one of my husband’s shirts, add a chunky belt, and wear it as a tunic (a very convenient post-partum option, too!) You check all of these images on my Pinterest board, and I do hope you’ll come visit me at my usual corner of the Interwebs. Thanks so much for having me, Alexa! XO.

Love the half-tuck look, it's sort of my default, it starts out tucked and ends up like that an hour into the day! Love the practicality of this look too!

Loving these!! Button down shirts are definitely a great option.
and ahh yes, I recall the days of my little cousins doing that to my shirts...though back then I didn't really have any unmentionables or anything to hide with them ;)

So the next time you find yourself facing some kind of obstacle or resistance in your life--you want to make things happen but they just aren't, you're unable to overcome your own resistance to something, or someone else is putting obstacles in your path--take a breather, go to a safe space, and ask, "What do I need to do to wait this out?" Either the obstacle will melt away on its own and the traffic of your life will start moving again or you'll dream up an alternate route, perhaps even a detour that leads you to an incredible destination you never imagined possible!
