Snapshots of Our Apartment

9/07/2011

{I'll admit that I wasn't initially sold on the map, but now I love it! Our new pillows really brighten up our living room and the throw from India - from my brother's store The Wooden House - hides a stain on our worn, but extremely comfy, Restoration Hardware chair}

{Ian's bedside table hosts an alarm clock that is so old it could be antique, a photograph of him as a baby taking his first trip to California and a real antique - a wooden carved painting that was his late grandfather's. Mine holds a few of my favorite photos, a dainty dish full of shells and sea glass that Ian finds for me during his surf sessions, and a rotating candle. I store my many scarves in a woven basket that my friend Whitney brought back from Zanzibar and the month's latest magazines - in addition to a year's worth of Vogues - lie here too. The surf photo was an apartment-warming gift from Alexa!}

{Our overflowing bookshelf is packed with, duh, books, framed photographs, albums our trips to Big Sur, and artwork - like the piece sign painted by Jacqueline, the wave painted by our friend Luke and the dish that I painted for Ian when we first started dating, which now holds quarters for laundry. The painting that sits above Ian's keyboard was a gift from me years ago (it's a photo from a surf trip to Baja transformed into a painting) and the mask was a gift from Ian. I finally changed out the photos in the hanging photos to ones that remind me of this summer}

{Ian got this Van Gogh print on our last visit to the Met and it is perfect for our  tiny kitchen. I rotate the pictures on our fridge but they are always full of family, friends and travel snapshots}

Here are a few things that I love about our first apartment together.

How fun! I love seeing where bloggers live. I think we pull a bit of our creativity from our surrounding spaces. Or our surrounding spaces reflect our creativity.

Hi Kirby! Your apartment is adorable and I love the pop of colour with those amazing yellow pillows! That alarm clock cracks me up... I'm pretty sure my dad has the same one and is still using it too! :)
