Friday I'm In Love

How have I not used that title before? Who doesn't love The Cure? I dare you.

Darlings, what are your plans for the weekend? Mila and I are at my parents' house and they have been gracious enough to entertain her while I work/blog/nap/stare aimlessly into space. So really, it's been quite swell.

Tonight I believe that I might be ready for a drink down at the local bar in Novato with my friend Nikki (who has a daughter very close to Mila's age). I have to pause here and say something about Nikki. We've known each other since we were four years old. We're about the same height. She's super organized. Me, not so much. She's a teacher, I'm a writer (so we're both poor, struggling______fill in the blank) and I could not have made it through Mila's first seven months of life as a rational human being if it wasn't for our 3am texts; our long, ranting emails; our frantic phone calls about teething, screaming, sleeping, etc.

Being a mom is like nothing I've ever experienced. It's amazing, empowering, joyful and delightful. But it can also be lonely, frustrating and downright scary. Any mom who can't admit that has either been brainwashed or has a steady and free supply of happy pills. Since I can't admit to either of those things, I have to thank Nikki for sometimes losing her sanity, for sending texts that often just say "AUGH," and for enjoying a glass of wine with me at the end of day, even if we live 300 miles away. I'm right there with you.
