Bon Appetit: Quarter Kitchen

8/01/2011

I was invited to come try Quarter Kitchen, the signature restaurant at Andaz San Diego (formerly The Ivy), and bring Ian as my plus one. So on Friday night we drove to the Gaslamp in downtown and enjoyed a three-hour, six course meal that was honestly one of the best I have had (Ian said the same thing more than once on our drive home!). Executive Chef Brian Puztai explained each dish (see notes below - some from the menu, some from memory) and its organic and often local origins. It was such a memorable meal so thank you to everyone at the Andaz!

Photo guide:

1. line caught ahi + crab + avocado + meyer lemon
2. charcuterie plate + local artisan salumi + whole grain mustard + cornichon + pickled onions with chef's selection of three cheeses + fruit compote + local honey comb
2. burrata cheese + mint basil pesto + heirloom tomatoes + grilled country bread
4. (Ian's selections) prime flat iron + house made fries + warm frisee salad + guanciale + bacon bearnaise with beef tenderloin (not on the menu but came with asparagus and an amazing sauce)
5. (my selections) beef tenderloin with slow braised short ribs + potato gnocchi + wild mushrooms + spinach + jus
6. trio of desserts: a hazelnut chocolate square, coconut cheesecake pop, strawberry short cake

Quarter Ktchen serves local produce, sustainable seafood and free-range meat and poultry from Brant Beef, Weiser, County Line Harvest, Crows Pass, Cunningham and Blue Herron Farms.
