Eating Our Way Through Nawlins

2/02/2011

{Lunch of champions at a New Orleans institution: Mother's Restaurant. Bloody marys and po' boys; I had fried shrimp and Ian had the Ferdi Special, which comes with roast beef, ham, gravy and what they call debris}
{After a 30-minute trolley ride we were discouraged to learn that the wait at Jacques-Imo's was over two hours on Saturday night. We decided to get margaritas and wait it out. We were seated in just over an hour and feasted on fried green tomatoes (pictured above), fried chicken, mashed potatoes and collard greens}
{You can't come to New Orleans and not have gumbo. We had ours at Mr. B's in the French Quarter}
{On our last night, we went to Acme Oyster House. We had every intention of ordering oysters as just an appetizer but couldn't stop once we started. We had raw oysters and chargrilled oysters with parmesan and breadcrumbs. Oh, and we also ordered Louisiana bread pudding for dessert but it was gobbled up before I could take a photo!}

New Orleans might not be the town for you if you are on any sort of diet or you don't like seafood. Fortunately, I don't fall into either one of those categories and enjoyed every single bite during our trip. Stay tuned for more photos of our trip to New Orleans later this week and for a Hump Day Giveaway later today!
